Triple Review and Free Comic Book Day

In celebration of free comic book day, here at the ultimate universe I'm going to do a triple review of comic related material. You ask what is a triple review JayPee? Well it is what it says it is. It's when I review three things in one blog entry so lets begin this thing.

Kick Ass Review
Kick Ass well it kicks ass. It is by far the best movie to come out this year. You should go see it but not just cause I say so. This film is funny and has a lot of kick ass action plus if you haven't read the comic book then you also be in for a few surprises too. It shows that a nerd can be a hero too or at least attempt to be one. It's the kind of movie that most people would enjoy except for people who want the world to go back to 1900. Overall I would give this movie a 9.3 out of 10, it's just that good.

Strengths: It kicks ass, funny, good action, surprises.

Weaknesses: What weaknesses it kicks ass.

Haunt

So I just finish reading Haunt literally, like right now. Haunt is the new comic created by Todd McFarlane (Spawn) and Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead). The comic so far is pretty good. It reminds me of spawn because of the main character's costume and parts of the story at the beginning are similar but other than that it starts to show it's own personality. It has some drama and tons of gory action. The artwork is awesome. I'll keep you updated on this comic but for now I would rate this a 8.6 out 10.

Strengths: McFarlane, Kirkman, Gore, Action, Good Artwork

Weaknesses: Beginning to much like spawn

Green Hornet

The last review is of Kevin Smith's Green Hornet. This is a remake/continuation of the Green Hornet story. Right now I have high hopes for this comic to become one of the greatest ever. My reason's for that is because of the story that has taken place so far in the first three issues and of the direction of Kevin Smith. If you don't know who Kevin Smith is, he is the guy who created Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob (That's Him), Clerks, Batman: Cacophony, and Batman: The Widening Gyre. He makes the stuff that people think are cult classics but back to the comic. The artwork is good just like any comic published by Dynamite Entertainment. Like I said earlier the story is good so far and it has a little bit of action. It also pays homage to the classic Green Hornet in various ways. So Far I would give this series a 9 out of 10. If you would also like to try this comic out you can get the first issue for free on Free Comic Book Day, you just have to find your local comic book store and you'll be all set up.

Project Update

Hello my fans, as you know by what I wrote in my first post that I am currently working on a web series with my cousin and working on some books. Currently I'm writing episodes 2 and 3 of Joe the Zombie Hunter. If you didn't see the first episode here is the link. Joe the Zombie Hunter Link The next episodes are going to be way funnier than the first and the zombies are going to look like zombies. Plus the first acting appearance by Rico will be in the second episode. Trust me you don't want to miss his bad acting, it's hilarious. Also Barack Obama will return. My cousin and me are also working on a new web series but we have know idea what it's going to be yet.

Other things I'm working on are three novels and a couple of short stories. The plot of my first novel titled King was finished yesterday. Now I'm about to start writing it. I figure it should be written in about 30 to 40 days. Then a couple more days to edit it. My second novel does not have a titled right now but it's codename is project atom. I've been working on this since November of 08. Eventually I'm going to finish it but I have so many ideas for it, it's hard to decide which ones to use but when I do figure it out it's going to be a classic. The third novel I'm working on does not have a titled nor a codename yet. It is simply a new idea that I had for a story that I think I'm going to pursue after I'm done with King. I'm also working on a couple of short stories that I will put up on my blog so you can see my work.

How The West Was Won

For those of you who don't know I'm a huge western fan. I can't get enough of the genre from reading it in comics and novels to playing videogames to watching Tarrantino's Mexican Standoffs. I just love the feel of the old west and right now it is no better time to be a fan of the genre for someone born in the 80's or later. What I mean by this is the rebirth of the genre back in 2004 when Rockstar Games released Red Dead Revolver, Deadwood, and the spagetti western themed Kill Bill Vol. 2 came out. At the time this just looked like three indivdual projects that were inspired by westerns but really was the beginning of the western rebirth. The next year we would see the release of No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy that was later made into a movie in 2007 which brought back a lot of interest in westerns. Later films like 3:10 to Yuma and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford staring big time actors like Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Russel Crowe, and Christain Bale. In the same year the videogame Call of Juarez came out. Dynamite comics would also join in the western rebirth by creating the Lone Ranger, The Man With No Name, and The Good The Bad and The Ugly comics. Marvel Comics would also follow in the footsteps of Dynamite by adapting Stephen King's fantasy western book series The Dark Tower into a comicbook. In 2009 the second Call of Juarez came would be released in the summer having some success at the time. Now FX networks has released a modern western show called Justified staring Timothy Olyphant. The modern western is pretty good with some critics saying it's better than the critically acclaimed The Shield but I wouldn't take it that far just yet. Next month the highly anticipation Red Dead Redemption will come out which I feel will really get a lot people into westerns. What is the future of westerns? Well supposely there making a Lone Ranger and Dark Tower movie. Hopefully will see another Red Dead and Call of Juarez game and maybe a new comicbook series or maybe I'll have to write my own western novel after I'm done with King. Thank You for reading, please leave comments. Here are some trailers.

Clash of the Titans Review

So my fiance and me just saw Clash of the Titans the day before it came and it didn't disappoint. If you have seen the original movie than you pretty much know the story so don't expect nothing new in that category. But if you want to see that same story with updated visuals then this is the movie for you. The visuals are impressive but what fantasy movie isn't these days. The film stars Sam Worthington a.k.a. Jake Sully The Nu Terminator as Perseus and Liam Neeson as Zeus. The movie has some pretty good battles of Jake Sully The Nu Terminator whopping some ass of Giant Scorpions, a hot Medusa, some random nasty dude, and of course the Kraken. I would give this movie a 8.4 out of 10.

Strengths: Visuals, Battles, Updated Look, Don't Have to Watch the Original Anymore

Weaknesses: Same Story, Average Acting, Jake Sully in a Skirt
